Job Description

The Product Engineer is responsible for the development of new products and processes as well as the improvement and maintenance of current product lines to meet future customer and market requirements

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Responsible for the development of new technology to support future engine and auxiliary cooling products. For example, the design and process development of next generation radiators, charge air coolers, oil coolers, and heat exchanger modules.
  • Play a lead role in delivery of cost-competitive, fully validated product lines within program timing constraints. This includes:
  • Comprehensive product design guides outlining detailed design considerations for application of a given product line.
  • Product cost models that will be used as basis for business assessments for given product line.
  • Structural limitation guidelines for product line.
  • Champion ATS Project Management methodology for product development activities and utilization of APQP processes.
  • Train and mentor others in design and heat exchanger technology.

Qualifications and Skills

Demonstrated design experience including:

  • The ability to concept and model parts and assemblies in 3-D CAD based on a thorough understanding of how a part is to be made, for example an extrusion, stamping, injection mold or casting.
  • The ability to research and apply industry specifications such as SAE and ASTM to product design.
  • The ability to determine critical features of the design in conjunction with suppliers, manufacturing, quality and customers; and translate into a detailed print and engineering specification.
  • The ability to develop product test plans including dimensional and functional (heat transfer, vibration, etc.)

ADDITIONAL EXPERIENCE

  • Experience utilizing DFMEA, PFMEA, DFM/DFA, design of experiments and GD&T in the design process is strongly desired.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to innovate and work hands on to resolve design issues with tool makers, prototype and manufacturing.
  • Experience applying mechanics of materials to design of steel, aluminum and plastic components is desired. Possess the ability to learn and apply industry specific engineering concepts including heat transfer and fluid dynamics.
  • Must possess strong project management and computer skills such as Microsoft Project and Excel.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • The desired requirements of the position are:
  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering.
  • A minimum of seven years of applicable experience.
  • Experience in an OEM manufacturing setting is highly desired.
  • Experience in an automotive, truck, or off-highway vehicle manufacturer or supplier would be a plus.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Demonstrated drive for timely and detailed results is a must.
  • Above average communication skills, organizational and interface skills.
  • Flexibility to travel, both domestically and internationally.
  • Writing of policies, procedures, cost justifications, project status reports, etc.
  • Interact with outside suppliers, customers, and co-workers in a positive and constructive manner.
  • Self-starting with the ability to operate well independently.
