Job Description

The Director of Facilities position ensures the effective and efficient management of all facilities, maintenance, and operations. This position is responsible for maintaining a safe, clean, and functional environment that supports the educational mission of the district.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Technical education/experience in facility maintenance and operations; knowledge of/experience in custodial procedures and operations.

2. Two years’ related management experience; operation of institutional HVAC systems preferred but not required.

3. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

4. Bilingual preferred but not required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Must have the ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time; exhibit manual dexterity to use phone and computer see and read computer screen and printed material with or without visual aids; hear and understand speech at normal classroom levels, outdoors, and on phone; and, to bend, stoop, climb stairs, walk and reach overhead. May occasionally be required to lift 40 pounds or in excess of 40 pounds with assistance;

WORKING ENVIRONMENT: Working conditions are both indoors and outdoors. Some work areas are climate controlled while others are subject to extreme temperatures and humidity.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Excellent verbal and written communication skills. The ability to use a computer for word processing, spreadsheets and data entry.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Regular, timely, in-person attendance.

  2. Recruit, hire, supervise, and conduct all regular performance evaluations for departmental personnel.

  3. Supervise and assist with the maintenance and repair of all school district buildings and grounds.

  4. Ensure the proper instructional environment through maintenance of the heating, ventilation, lighting, plumbing, and safety systems.

  5. Collaborate with district leadership on long-term facility planning and capital improvement projects.

  6. Assess facility needs and make recommendations for upgrades or expansions.

  7. Address facility-related issues promptly to minimize disruptions to educational activities.

  8. Serve as the primary liaison between the district and contractors, architects, and engineers.

  9. Engage with staff, students, and the community to address facility-related concerns.

  10. Report to the Superintendent and School Board on facility operations and projects.

  11. Develop and manage the facilities department budget.

  12. Oversee purchasing and vendor relationships for facility-related services and supplies.

  13. Identify cost-saving opportunities through operational efficiencies and energy management strategies.

  14. Maintain school district vehicle fleet, ensuring vehicles are serviced according to schedules and all service records are maintained accurately and completely.

  15. Maintain custodial/maintenance inventory supplies and repair parts for equipment.

  16. Perform routine inspections of each building for cleanliness and safety and confer with building principals regarding departmental work in an effort to maintain high standard of safety, efficiency, and cleanliness.

  17. Play key role in continuous improvement efforts throughout the district, developing and monitoring district goals.
  18. Participate in district meetings and committee assignments.
  19. Complete all trainings and other compliance requirements as assigned by designated deadline.
  20. Maintain accurate, complete and correct records as required by law, District policy, and administrative regulation.
  21. Prepare reports for the school board, accreditation, and other stakeholders.
  22. Respect and practice confidentiality both in and out of school with regard to records, activities, and communications relating to all students, parents/guardians, and staff.
  23. Demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to use a computer for word processing, spreadsheets and data entry.
  24. Follow and support district goals, mission and implement district programs.
  25. Perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent.
